About intercessions.co.uk

When trying to write some intercessions for a local church service many years ago, I was astounded by the lack of help and inspiration found on the internet. I decided that something had to be done to help all the people out there that have not had any intercession writing training, or are just plain stuck. This repository of prayers can also be used for your own personal use.

Feel free to browse through our ever expanding collection of Intercessions and Prayers, or use the category selection on the right to help you find a specific prayer.

If you would like to submit a prayer or suggest a new category then please email it to beki@intercessions.co.uk Please include details of authorship, as we do not want to steal credit for anyone else’s work. Dear Lord, we thank you for all your people who have risked and sacrificed much to provide us with all the benefits and comforts of our modern life. Help us to encourage our young people to follow their examples and to build on their legacies so that future generations may enjoy continued progress, whether that be in healthcare; transportation; manufacturing; food production or any other of the multitude of fields of fruitful endeavour available to them.

We pray for our own local community. We confess our own failings and lack of compassion and love. We thank you that you forgive our failings and we ask you to graciously give us a spirit of love and forgiveness that sees only the good in each other, that bears no grudges and forgives all grievances. May we learn to forgive even as you have forgiven us that we may live together in unity.

Father God,
Hear our prayer.

We pray for our communities in Britain at this time, especially for those communities in England that have suffered in the violence of the last week. We ask you to embolden your people in those communities to be beacons of hope, compassion and strength and by their lives be examples of your Son, Jesus Christ, so drawing others to you, our only hope in this world. We pray for our leaders, nationally and locally, for the Police and the Emergency Services, that in spite of bureaucracy and lack of resources, they would be strong in leadership, just, honest and consistent in all they do to serve their communities.

Father God,
Hear our prayer.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! When we see the work of your hands – the earth, the heavens, the moon, the stars, the beauty of your creation, we praise and worship you alone, almighty God. We thank you for all your creation and for your people throughout the world in all their differing cultures and environments. We pray for all humankind and especially for those suffering poverty, persecution, slavery, oppression, injustice and the effects of conflict. We ask you to give compassion, wisdom and courage to your children throughout the world that they and we may defend those who suffer and work to bring relief wherever we can.

Father God,
Hear our prayer.

At a time of turmoil in the world when decisions being made are life or death decisions for often innocent people. We pray that you will be there when decisions are being made and that your voice will be heard above the egos and self interest.

Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

At a time when many question the relevance of the Church, give us the presence to be witnesses in the world. Witnesses that strengthen the presence of Christ in our communities.

Help us to be the answer to those questions of relevance by what we do and what we are known for.

Make us a welcoming body of Christ here at xxxxx so when people think about xxxx Church they think about the real church, the people of God who worship here.

Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Lord, we pray that you are able to provide solace and inspiration to
those who feel detached from you at this moment. Those who feel that
you may not be present in their daily lives, or find it difficult to
turn their thoughts towards to you. We pray that they are able to once
again experience your ever present and glorifying nature and realise
that you had never left them, but were always there waiting.

We thank you, Lord, for providing us the time and space to live and
breathe both physically and spiritually. We thank you for your
patience and grace for all those who feel spiritual crisis in their
lives. Most of all, we thank you for being beside us at all times;
whether we recognise this or not.

Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Lord, we are sorry for destroying your creation.
We have chopped down forests,
we have polluted the air,
we have poisoned the rivers and seas,
we have destroyed the places where animals live.
Help us change our ways so that we can look after the world,
and to make it the way that you want it to be.

Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Then, God finished the work that he had done, and he rested.

Lord, we thank you for our time of rest, a time to relax and time to spend with you. We ask that you help us to see that we need our relaxation just as much as we need our work and our community.

Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God said to them, ‘See, I have given you every plant yielding seed, you shall have them for food. And to everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.’

Lord, we thank you for the food that you have provided us with. We ask that you help farmers and local shops to continue thriving through these difficult times.

Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
